Egg In Puff Pastry (Air Fryer)

airfryer-eggpuffpastryIf you thought that an Air-fried egg in a toast was easy and delish, try this Air Fryer Egg in a Puff Pastry. Game changer.

2 sheets puff pastry, thawed, cut into 4x5" rectangles
2 eggs
1 tsp. oil, for brushing
⅛ tsp. kosher or sea salt
black pepper, freshly ground
seasoning of choice (optional)

Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (180°C).

Roll out puff pastry sheets and cut the dough into two 4x5-inch rectangles. Gently brush each rectangle puff with oil on each side. Or spray with oil.

Place the puffs directly onto the air fryer basket (tray). Bake on airfry mode for 3-4 minutes until the pastry becomes puffy.

Remove from the air fryer and turn each rectangle puff on the other side. You may notice that the dough may still be uncooked and that’s OK.

Using a large spoon, press firmly but gently, into the center of the puff to create a “nest” or a pocket. The pocket should be slightly lower than the outer edges of the puff pastry. (Picture 2). And make sure the base of the puff does not have any holes.

Crack an egg and gently pour it into each pocket of the puff pastry dough, ensuring the yolk is not broken.

Sprinkle the top of the egg with salt and pepper to taste. Use a dash of preferred seasoning. I sprinkled it with a pinch of Italian seasoning and a pinch of grated Parmesan cheese.

Gently transfer the egg in a puff pastry into the preheated air fryer basket (tray) and cook for 6-7 minutes on air-fry mode. Check at 6 minutes how the yolk looks. If it’s set, then it’s done. If you prefer a firmer yolk, cook for 7-8 minutes and 8-10 minutes for a hard yolk.

Let cool for a minute and serve immediately to enjoy a runny yolk.

Cook's Notes:

  • Make large enough pockets in the pastry; this will give your egg a luxury space to spread out.
  • If you notice the egg whites are running over the puff pastry into the tray, that’s normal. You can remove a spoonful of the white before adding it to the puff pastry.
  • If the yolk breaks, do not panic. Just cook the puff with a broken yolk and see how it comes out.
  • Ensure your machine is fully preheated before making air fryer eggs in a puff pastry.
