Tequila Sunrise (Arizona)
A bartender at the famous Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, Arizona came up with the original Tequila Sunrise in the 1930's at the request of a frequent guest asking for a refreshing tequila drink. While the modern day Tequila Sunrise is a great cocktail, the famous orange juice and grenadine version is not the original. If you want a taste of the first tequila sunrise, you'll need lime juice, crème de cassis, and club soda. It's equally delicious and includes the sunrise, but it has an entirely different taste.
1½ oz tequila
¾ oz crème de cassis
½ lime, freshly squeezed
4 oz club soda
Garnish:
lime wheel
black cherries
Shake the Tequila and Lime Juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled Collins Glass filled with ice, and top with soda water leaving room at the top of the drink. Add Crème de Cassis to the drink, and let it sink to the bottom of the cocktail.
Garnish with a lime wheel and black cherries, if desired.
Makes 1 cocktail.
