Bay Breeze (Hawaiian)

american-hawaii-baybreezeBay Breeze is a refreshing cocktail with Hawaiian origins. It consists of vodka and cranberry juice as its base, with an addition of pineapple juice. This elegant, layered cocktail is sometimes also referred to as Downeaster, Hawaiian Sea Breeze, Paul Joseph, Malibu Bay Breeze, Tropical Bay Breeze, Hawaiian Sea Breeze and a few others I've seen in the local bars. All these cocktails feature either vodka or rum mixed with cranberry juice and pineapple juice. Malibu Bay Breeze, of course, uses Malibu rum and Tropical Bay Breeze usually features coconut rum.

A cocktail can match your mood and change the atmosphere. One day you may want to relax after a long day at work, while other days you want to feel like you are on a Caribbean island. Once simple switch between vodka and coconut rum can help you do that.

2 oz coconut rum, vodka or light rum
2 oz cranberry juice
2 oz pineapple juice

Garnish:
lime wedge

Build the drink in a highball glass filled with ice.

Garnish with a lime wedge, if desired, add a straw and serve.

Makes 1 cocktail.

Cook's Notes:

  • METHOD: The amount of ingredients used varies from recipe to recipe, with some calling for equal parts of all three to others upping either the cranberry or the pineapple juice. Usually, the cocktail is built in a glass, but it can also be shaken resulting in a cocktail that is pale peach rose colour, with foam on top, which makes for a lovely presentation.
  • GARNISH: A Bay Breeze does not need any garnishes, but you will often find that it will have a lime wedge or a lime wheel as decoration.
  • DRINKWARE: Although typically served in a highball glass, a bay breeze is also often served in a rocks glass.
