Black Velvet (English)

blackvelvetThe Black Velvet is a beer cocktail made from a stout (often Guinness) and white, sparkling wine (often Champagne) of equal proportions. The drink was first created by the bartender of Brooks's Club in London in 1861, to mourn the death of Prince Albert, who was Queen Victoria's Prince Consort. The steward ordered that even the Champagne should be in mourning, dressed all in black. A curiously silky, velvety drink where the effervescence and dry biscuit notes of sparkling wine provides a curious coupling with Guinness Extra Stout, served in a Champagne flute for a touch of decadence.

4 oz champagne
4 oz Guiness stout or malt beer

Pour some cold champagne in a flute champagne glass and then add the beer. Do not mix

Makes 1 drink.
