Martini (Vodka)
When gin was all the rage in England and, later, the U.S., vodka was the preferred spirit of faraway lands. But since the end of World War II, the colourless, odorless, tasteless wonder has overtaken North American drinking culture and, as a matter of course, has come to be a very common base spirit for the martini. Though it’s not the most flavourful, it’s still a very refreshing drink when properly diluted and chilled. You can make this as dry as you desire, but for the sake of comparison, let’s use the same proportions as in the classic dry martini.
2¼ oz vodka (67 mL)
¾ oz vermouth (22 mL)
Garnish:
3 olives
Pour the vodka and vermouth into a cocktail shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice and seal.
Shake hard for 15 seconds. Yeah, you’re shaking this one.
Garnish with 3 olives on a pick.
Makes 1 cocktail.
