Painkiller (St. Thomas)
Mexico has the margarita, Puerto Rico has the piña colada, and in St. Thomas the Painkiller Cocktail is theirs. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds. A painkiller is a tropical rum-based drink with roots that bring you back to the British Virgin Islands. A mix of navy or dark rum, pineapple, orange, and coconut, the signature ingredient of any painkiller is nutmeg. Without it, you're looking at something similar to a piña colada, which is a great drink in its own right. Yet, if you're looking to properly mix up this retro cocktail, that pinch of spice is essential.
2 oz Pusser's dark rum
4 oz fresh pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice, freshly squeezed
1 oz cream of coconut
fresh nutmeg, grated
In a cocktail shaker add all of the liquid ingredients and shake until well mixed.
Pour mixture in a glass with ice, top with nutmeg, and serve.
Makes 1 serving.
