Perfect Storm (British Columbia)
The phrase "the perfect storm" gets used a lot for various situations but here's one way to drink it all in. This rum-based cocktail recipe with a citrus twist is from bar manager Chad Rivard from Straight and Marrow, which reopened in Vancouver's East Village in July.
2 oz Flor de CaƱa 12 Year Rum
0.5 oz house ginger syrup
3 drops Ms. Betters Lime Leaf Bitters
Garnish:
lime, freshly zested
lime peel
Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass. Strain into a rocks glass with a king ice cube. Zest with lime peel and use as garnish.
Ginger Syrup:
1 cup fresh ginger, diced
10 allspice berries
2 sticks cinnamon
5 dried chilies, cracked
2 kaffir lime leaves
2 limes, freshly zested
water (1 L)
sugar (500 mL)
Combine all ingredients except for sugar in a pot. Bring to a boil for 10 minutes.
Strain all solids and dissolve sugar into the liquid while it's still hot.
Makes 1 cocktail.
