Steak Sauce
Homemade Steak Sauce is tangy, barely sweetened, and just a little bit smoky. Perfect for steak dipping and burger topping, this sauce is all the best parts of A-1 and Heinz 57 sauce flavours, made at home. You only need a couple of minutes to stir everything together, then it will simmer on its own.
½ cup ketchup
1 large clove garlic, minced
2 Tbsp. water
2 Tbsp. plain vinegar or white wine vinegar
1½ Tbsp. lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 Tbsp. light brown sugar
½ Tbsp. Dijon mustard
¼ tsp. red pepper flakes
Combine ketchup, garlic, water, vinegar, lemon juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and red pepper in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken and reduce slightly.
Let cool and then transfer to an airtight container. Refrigerate until needed.
Makes 12 Tbsp. or 2/3 cup.
