Fried Plantains (Honduran Platanos Fritos)

honduran-platanosfritosHonduran Platanos Fritos is a very common side dish of fried plantain or banana as it is the main export of this country. It is always served as part of the plato tipico or Typical plate, the national dish of Honduras. Typically it is made with a very ripe black plantain, cut into fourths and fried. The caramelized plantain is delicious with the refried beans and sour cream. Honduran Platanos Fritos are sweet and savoury at the same time. Super easy to make and it would also be a lovely snack.

2 black plantains
oil, for frying

Cut off the ends of the plantain then cut it in half and then cut each half in half and remove the peel.

Put oil into a frying pan or a deep fryer could be used and fry until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel.

Serve warm as part of the plato typico or with some sour cream as a lovely snack.
